The Sooke Region Museum & Visitor Centre is seeking a Gift Shop Assistant / Visitor Information Councillor to support operation of the Museum Gift Shop, Visitor Centre and Museum. This public-facing position is often the first point of contact with visitors and requires an excellent level of customer service, personal presentation and professional standards. As Gift Shop Assistant, this position assists customers, replenishes stock and liaises with consignees, There is potential for this position to become Gift Shop Manager with additional responsibilities in sourcing, purchasing, and marketing. As Visitor Information Counsellor, this position will deliver exemplary customer service and provide sound local knowledge of the tourism-related offerings of the Sooke Region, assisting in the day-to-day operation of the Visitor Centre located at the Sooke Region Museum. As part of the Museum staff team, this position participates in team meetings and provides support where needed to ensure Museum operations serve community members and visitors.


Exhibit Research Assistant

contract position: 6 Oct 2025 – 27 Mar 2026
hourly wage: $19.35

The Sooke Region Museum & Visitor Centre is seeking an Exhibits Research Assistant to support the updating of permanent exhibits. The Museum opened in 1977, and as we approach the 50th anniversary, we are planning to update exhibits that have been on display since the 1980s/90s.

The Intern will work with Museum staff to
– Conduct historical research to inform an update to the exhibits using materials at the Sooke Region Museum as well as external sources
– Identify reliable sources of information to tell stories about local history, cultural and natural heritage
– Develop interpretive themes to focus the exhibits and direct research, interpretation, and presentation
– Identify objects in the current collection that help tell local stories
– Suggest potential techniques, formats, methods of storytelling/display/presentation to convey information in an engaging way
– Identify potential gaps in current collection

The Sooke Region Museum & Visitor Centre is seeking an individual, or group, to offer workshops at the museum with instruction on creating and/or repairing, upcycling, embellishing textiles and garments.
