Join us for a week-long celebration of Black Heritage in Sooke!
Sooke Region Museum is hosting Sooke Black Heritage Week in collaboration with Sooke Global Majority.
The theme of BC Heritage Week 2026, ‘Stir the Pot’ aligns powerfully with the them of Black History Month, ‘Out of Many Cultures, One People’ by celebrating the richness that emerges when diverse food traditions, stories, cultures, and voices come together.

Starting on Family Day and continuing throughout the week the program will highlight the lived experiences of being Black in Sooke through food, music, dance, storytelling, and cultural traditions, while creating a welcoming space for dialogue around Black identity, community connection, and the ongoing fight against racism.

Black Heritage Celebration & Potluck – free
Registration required to participate in potluck. All welcome to visit Sooke Region Museum & Visitor Centre and Moss Cottage that will be open with activities throughout the grounds.

Financial Literacy Workshop – $10

Afro-Brazilian Dance – $10

Mayor Tait proclaims Heritage Week in the District of Sooke!

Mayor Maja Tait is proud to proclaim February 16–22, 2026, as Heritage Week, recognizing the people, places, and stories that shape the community’s unique identity and contribute to its social, cultural, and economic well-being.

Heritage is the foundation of community identity, connecting residents with shared histories, traditions, and experiences. Through the proclamation of Heritage Week, the District of Sooke reaffirms its commitment to protecting and celebrating its rich and diverse cultural and natural heritage.
